- UCSI (South Wing) KL -

Sorry for zee EXTREMELY late update. lol

I am studying for a degree in Mass Communication in [UCSI]
Also known as University College Sedaya International
(and was formerly known as Sedaya College)

I came here in the last week of August,
And it's now the second week of classes!
*I'm taking two subjects for this short sem, that will last about 2 months*
(Yes, me holidays is coming in October. LOL)

The downside about the "hooray for short semester" part,
Is that we have to rush a 14 week syllabus into a 7 week semester.
And that means 6 hours of classes for each subject in a week,
And never ending group discussions and presentations to get ready for :(

Okay, back to ADVERTISING for my university XD
*one of my subjects that i'm currently taking*

The reason for the "South Wing" in my post title,
Is that UCSI of KL (which is in Cheras)
Is divided into the South Wing (Taman Connaught)
And North Wing (Taman Tayton)
There is a huge highway in between these campuses,
But there is a overheard bridge, and probably about a 15 minute walk to get to each side,
Also, UCSI provides free shuttle bus to-and-fro the two wings.
*for now, i have yet to visit the North Wing. XD

Block A (main office etc)

The gate of UCSI,
The orange building on the far back of the pict is my hostel block :(

Students of School Of Music Performing

Multi Purpose Hall
Orientation Day 2 - Games =)

Level 1 of Block A - Registration for Orientation

Block D - Hostel for students

The cafeteria in Block D

The living room for every floor

UCSI Shuttle Buses

Going down the steep hill,
Sometimes I just wanna roll down. XD

View from the bottom.
going back after dinner

Ground Floor Block A

Library - 2nd Floor

Library - 3rd Floor

One of the classrooms

Auditorium

Recital Hall

Row of shops right by our campus

Where we usually get our stuff and dinner

My Hostel Room =)

Shoe Rack XD

My wardrobe. messy

My desk. I LOVEEEE
*it's bigger than the desk i have at home. lol

My food supply XD

My opinions about UCSI?
It's good enough for me,
And I have an excellent lecturer for my Sociology class
*Although a bit scary, but she's great in what she's doing*

The food...
Errrrr. Still dealing with that,

The location of the university...
Just right. Very convenient to go anywhere.
There is also a bazaar (pasar malam) on every Wednesday just right by our university

All I can say is so far so good. =)

@pixie. Hi!
Welcome to UCSI, XD

erm, nope, the bathroom and toilet is not attached to each room.
each floor will have a shared bathroom, but it's plenty enough to use. when shower time u might have to wait a while esp during peak hours. hehe. but other than that, it's okay. clean and comfy u can say. =)

hello..taking mass communication compulsory use macbook or normal laptop can already?

LeeLin said...

hi, mass comm use normal laptop also okay already. if you don't have one, we have a computer lab in campus. it's already accounted into the facilities that you will be paying for. =)

when will you be coming into UCSI? you'll be my junior then, sort of. i'm taking mass comm too XD

Hi LiLiN, im going to ucsi for my foundation in music this august. If my friend want to take foundation in arts, she will study n stay in north wing or south wing? And can i noe how far is the distance between north wing and south wing?

LeeLin said...

Hi! =)
Well, foundation in Arts is in the South Wing. In general,
The North Wing is always for Architecture or Engineering.

If your friend is staying under UCSI's hostels, she might be placed in South Wing, but it also depends on if the rooms are fully occupied or not.

If she didn't get a room in South Wing hostel, but want to stay near the campus, she can stay in Angkasa Condo, it's about 15 mins walk away from UCSI South Wing. (very near when you get used to it)

Also, South Wing and North Wing is actually just opposite the main highway. You can walk, it will take about 20-30 minutes using the overhead bridge.
UCSI also offers shuttle bus. The route is between South Wing-Bandar Tasik Selatan-North Wing. That's one round. Have to head out early to get to the other side cause the bus is not always on time, and depends on traffic also. =)

Hope you'll have fun when you come here then =D

I'm going to study in UCSI next January and I'm pleased with the good comments people are giving, I'm from Indonesia btw :)
Is there a certain community in the web where people from UCSI gather around? FB group perhaps? I'd like to know some people before I study there, thank you =]

LeeLin said...

You can take a looksie, or try post on the wall to look for friends there XD

hey nice to meet u,
i'm soon-to-be foundation in science(medicine) student in ucsi university.
May i ask how is the arrangement system of roomates there?
will we be placed with international student or locals?
thank you in advance for u reply.

LiLiN said...

hi David, sorry for the incredibly late reply.

erm, i honestly am not sure about that.. i think it's pretty random, but if you are unhappy with the room arrangement, you can try to apply for change.

Don't worry so much alright, cause the university is FILLED with international students, some of them are pretty nice once you get to know them ;)

all the best ya! :D

JIE said...

Hi ^^
i feel interested in your life in UCSI as im interested in mass comm in UCSI?
Do you mind to share somethings in UCSI?
or can u giv me ur email address?so i can ask for more details....

LiLiN said...

hey there JIE,

you can ask directly here, so that future visitors can share the info...? :)

Well, to be honest, many of the good lecturers are leaving and not much are left, Those left are part-time lecturers, and only if you're lucky, you get them in certain semesters. :(

what is your pre-university experience? form 6? foundation?

because if you are going to take pre-u in UCSI, you can take a year or two to look out for Mass Comm degree's quality then, as I'm in my final semester now, I have no guarantee what it'd be like in the future, sorry to say.
However, I wish you would find the best path! =)

Regards,
YLin.

JIE said...

ok...^^

Now studying form 6...
But i find it very very hard to study...Because math m(art stream)in sem 1 really difficult...even the expperienced teacher also say very difficult to study in form6...
So...im now finding some college as a backup... :(

How about the hostel?
what is the price?
and the hostel is in the college area right?
I think if i wan to study from foundation is foundation in arts right?is it in South wing? And degree for mass comm is also South wing right?then the hostel also in South Wing right?

Because when i search the information, i realise that there is a toll?or what between South Wing and North Wing ><
is that true?

LiLiN said...

yes, finding college is always good for backup :)

IF you are taking foundation in arts in UCSI, yes, it is in south wing. and yes, mass comm is also in south wing.
You also have the option of ALevel in ucsi :)

The hostel price in South Wing is rm550 currently (with air-conditioning). please confirm with the person who arrange this for you as you may be placed in North Wing if there is no place left in South wing.

No, there is no toll between North and South Wing, don't worry. there is shuttle bus to go between the two and the LRT station/KTM Komuter/KLIA Express (Bandar Tasik Selatan). :)

i recommend you stay in the hostel for your first few months first. then after that, after you get to know the surroundings, you can move out to Angkasa Condo. it's just 10 mins walk from campus, and many students stay there. :)

JIE said...

I think i can't go there le...
because of financial problem....

Last week, our school have education fair, and i ask for the ppl in charge of UCSI...she told me fees and the hostel price...i think my parents can't afford it...They say although can apply for PTPTN, after i start to work, i need to pay back a lot of money...

So...maybe i'll finish my form 6 then after that, will try to ask for my parents permission to go to study in degree course...At least now i can save the money for foundation as i study form 6~

Thanks for your help ^^
Maybe after i graduate from form 6, i can go to UCSI then i'll find you again :)

LiLiN said...

haha, i don't know where i'll be by then as i'm already graduating this semester!

It's okay JIE, don't worry about college yet as you're still in your Form 6, although, hats off for taking a step ahead and looking into your future way ahead! :)

You still have a while to go before needing to find a university or college, and you don't even know the outcome of STPM yet!

For Foundation you don't have to go to an expensive place, it's for basics only. but do look into the subjects offered during foundation courses, and see if they are value for money. By then you'll know what course to go into already, so maybe you can consider diploma... ? :)

All the best to you JIE!
thanks for dropping by =)

JIE said...

then can i say:"Congratulations"~?haha~

But now i'm so worry that i can't pass my exam....haizz...
should not be so upset...

All the best to you oso!

Vivian said...

Hey there :)
I'm currently in my final sem for Foundation in Arts at UTAR and I planned to do my degree in Mass Comm at UCSI.
I would like to know whether are there any hostel nearby that offers single room rather than double sharing room?
And how much would the rental cost roughly be?
Thank you and waiting for your reply :)

LiLiN said...

hi Vivian.

as far as i know, there are no single rooms available from UCSI. but if you want, you can look for a place in Angkasa Condo - there, one unit consist of one single room, one master room and one middle room (the latter two are mostly shared rooms).

you can try look for a place via Facebook. try search for "angkasa condo" it's an open group, and you can see ppl renting out rooms and such. the price varies according to the availability of aircon/ furniture/ internet/ electricity. it depends on the owner too.

all the best! :)

Hello, my name is wardana, i'm going to ucsi this september, can I ask some question?

I want to study oil & gas management, it is good in UCSI? maybe you can share some experience that you ever heard about this faculty :)

And its true Oil and gas management in trengganu campus? i heard that it is away from city, do you know the trengganu campus condition?

Thanks for your attention, nice to meet you :D

LiLiN said...

hi Wardana, nice to meet you and thanks for stopping by ;)

i'm really sorry, but i've never heard of Oil and Gas Management. so i think it might be in Terengganu Campus, not sure though, because i've only heard of Medical Courses in Terengganu. I'm sure you can get more information from ucsi's website.

or give the office a call to make sure.

sorry i can't be of help in your case :(

Wardana said...

OOh, i see....

And how about ucsi in general? I mean that how is the condition and rating UCSI in Malaysia? It is a top university?

Do you have any contact number or Blackberry PIN for Indonesian student in UCSI? Maybe I can ask some detail information how to get there :D

By the way, thanks for all information above...

LiLiN said...

sorry for the late reply Wardana!

erm, generally UCSI ain't half bad, if you don't pick on the tiny details. I won't say it's VERY famous or the top universities, but it does build a name for itself in the Mass Communication/ Music faculty.

I'm sorry I don't have any BB contacts. :( But you can easily find people from UCSI's facebook page.

Hey there !
My name is jessica :) and my going to take fashion design in UCSI. Do u think it is a good academic? And if i take it, am I still need to do a foundation or something to learn first?

LiLiN said...

Hey Jessica,
thanks for visiting, and sorry for the late reply. hehe. as you can see, i haven't been blogging for a while. :P

I am not one to say if fashion design in UCSI is good or not, but i have met some friends from that course, they seem stressed but their outcome is very lovely :) if you have the interest, why don't you go for it? :)

Erm, i am not 100% sure on what are the requirements for fashion design course, but you can always check on the UCSI official website ya. but i'm pretty sure all courses need a pre-university requirement. hehe.

Hey there! (:

Your review helped a lot, thanks! I might apply for the mass comm course for January (: Just wanna know, are the lecturers good?
How bout the environment, culture, etc.
And living expenses?
Oh, and how is UCSI compared to uni's like Inti Nilai in terms of the students. Mostly chinese speaking students or english speaking ones?

Would really appreciate it if you can reply
Thanks a lot! (:

Reuben

LiLiN said...

hey there Reubenster.

i've abandoned this blog a long time ago, but lucky for you i still check my mailbox :P

well, i can only say that a lot of good lecturers are leaving (or have already left), and there's a whole new batch of Malay lecturers coming into the Mass Comm department. (And i already ended my semesters, so I really do not know the how the new lecturers or their teaching styles are) so i can't guarantee the quality for you there!

the environment is okay, don't expect much, if you really are signing up for Mass Comm, you will be in the South Wing Campus of UCSI, there's only 4 blocks, so don't have high expectations alright, hehe. the facilities are okay if you're not too picky. i have no complaints of the school but some of my coursemates do. :/

the clubs and activities are fun, ucsi is always active, so it's good :)

in terms of students, well, there's both chinese speaking students and english speaking. so it's okay. you may want to move around some gangs til you find a gang that fits you. (i get what you mean when you asked that question ;) )

Living expenses, if you are staying in the UCSI hostel, is pretty expensive. but i do recommend you stay in the hostel for the first semester so you get to know the system, the place and get to know some friends before you move out. When you are ready, you can move out to Angkasa Condo (just nearby) or to the housing areas (few minutes walk away) with some people you know. :)

All the best in your decision alright!

:)

LiLiN said...

hi there,
sorry, but i don't know much on the biotech course. :(

erm, i would say mostly are chinese, but there is a lot of international students coming in as well, we have students from Indonesia, China, Nigeria, Botswana and many more. But majority is still local Chinese.

I just read your post. May I ask you something? In mass communication major do we have to have a camera?

LiLiN said...

you don't HAVE to have a camera, but it will help as we do have a subject called "Intro to Basic Photography" that is if you choose to take this subject.
